Dave Deschenes is our Executive Program Director here at Backcountry Journeys. He is responsible for the day-to-day business operation of the organization. In his role he is responsible for ensuring our clients have amazing outdoor experiences and making sure that the business on the backside of the mountain is running like a well-oiled machine.
Dave has more than twenty five years of professional business experience, from working in a variety of capacities in the financial services sector to being an entrepreneurial leader launching and growing two successful nonprofit organizations in the endurance sporting space.
Dave has always had a passion for the outdoors from his time in the Boy Scouts earning the rank of Eagle Scout to becoming an avid adventurer, outdoorsman and wildlife enthusiast participating in just about every outdoor activity from hiking, backpacking, rafting, climbing, mountain biking and skiing. He’s comfortable in a baseball hat and backpack or even rocking a cowboy hat. Some of his favorite trails are the highline trail in Glacier National Park and the Teton Crest Trail in Grand Teton National Park. The two species that Dave enjoys watching and photographing are screaming (bugling) Rocky Mountain Elk during the rut in September and the majestic Golden Eagle.
Dave is based in Colorado Springs and can often be found out on adventures across the Rocky Mountain region with his wife, Kara, son, Kyle, and Aussie shepherd, Tucker. He is a certified Outdoor Guide from the University of Wyoming’s Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources. He is trained Wilderness First Responder certified through the National Outdoors Leadership School (NOLS). Finally, he is looking forward to seeing you have a trip of a lifetime with the BCJ tribe!
